IE Virtual PC Update
April 18th, 2007 at 5:44 PM by Matt FreedmanThe IETeam has released an update for the IE VPC Image. The image is a copy of Windows XP SP2 with IE6. The image no longer come with Windows Genuine Advantage, since people were getting “Your copy of Windows may be Pirated” (or w/e the error is). This is because the keys for the images are deactivated, so as to prevent people from just taking the keys from the image’s Windows, and entering it into a normal copy of XP.
They have also made a VPC Image with IE7. So, now you can test IE7 on Windows XP SP2 if you can’t upgrade from IE6, or you’re on Vista, or something. So, this is pretty cool.
Both of these images expire on August 17, 2007.

Massive “Storm Trojan” SPAM Surge
April 13th, 2007 at 10:00 PM by Matt FreedmanThere has been a recent surge in Email SPAM containing the Trojan.Peacomm Virus (also know as the Storm Trojan). This Virus comes as a attachment. Trojan.Peacomm is a Password-Protected Zip file, and, when opened, will install a Trojan Virus that will install itself as a System Driver and download and install malicious programs from various other computers on the Internet.
The Subjects of these emails are usually similar to these, but may change:
- Worm Detected!
- [UNABLE TO SCAN] Worm Detected!
- [WARNING – ENCRYPTED ATTACHMENT NOT VIRUS SCANNED] Virus Alert!
- [WARNING – ENCRYPTED ATTACHMENT NOT VIRUS SCANNED] Worm Detected!
- Worm Detected!
- Undeliverable: Virus Det
- [ATTENTION – NON TRAIT? PAR ANTIVIRUS — WARNING – NOT VIRUS SCANNED]%s
- Virus Detected!ected!
- Virus Activity Detected!
- ATTN!
- Spyware Alert!
- Spyware Detected!
- Warning!
- Trojan Alert!
- Trojan Detected!
- Worm Activity Detected!
- Virus Alert!
The emails may be from the following names, but they may change:
- Abuse Team
- Customer Support Center
- Customer Support Center Robot
- Customer Support
- Customer Support Robot

So, keep your Virus Definitions up-to-date and don’t open any emails/attachments if you can’t confirm you know who sent it. If the email looks suspicious, DON’T OPEN IT! 😛
Philips Buys DLO
April 13th, 2007 at 7:50 PM by Matt FreedmanPhilips, which you probably heard of before, announced today that they have bought DLO (Digital Lifestyle Outfitters), most known for their DLO HomeDock and it’s other iPod accessories.
The deal will be finalized by the second quarter, and DLO is supposed to become part of Philips Accessories line. Whether that means DLO will cease to exist under their current name, or under Philips’ name, isn’t known, yet.
DLO is best known for it’s iPod accessories, but they also make Zune and other MP3 Players. DLO is best known for the “DLO HomeDock Deluxe”, which allows you to put your iPod on the Dock, and hock the Dock up to your TV, and then you can watch your Movies, Podcasts, etc on your TV, which the included remote and on-TV Interface.
I haven’t ever used a DLO product, but I hear they’re good. Plus, they’re advertised a lot on Photoshop TV.

John Chow’s Giving Away a Zune

I thought I’d enter since the Zune looks pretty cool, and you can’t buy one in Canada, yet. The Zune is worth about $250USD, so it’s a worthwhile contest.
Google’s “Sponsored Link” Becomes Yellow
April 5th, 2007 at 9:25 PM by Matt FreedmanIf you have noticed, the background colour for the “Sponsored Link” on a Google search have changed from Blue to Yellow. A pale yellow. The previous colour, blue, worked much better, and complemented the colours of Google’s site much better. Now, the yellow is just an eyesore. This is probably to bring more attention to the Sponsored Links, so Google makes more money.
