iTunes 7.3.1 Released

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

iTunes 7.3.1 has been released which fixes a Library Saving error. I previously posted the workaround.

I must say, it’s good that Apple patched this. But, why did it take so long? iTunes 7.3 was released on June 29, 2007, and the fix was released July 12, 2007. That’s like 12 days! I doubt it took them more than an hour to fix it, and it’s not like they didn’t know about it, everybody was having the problem.

I’m disappointed in you Apple, even though I don’t really like you anyways… 😛

So, go download the update (Go Start > All Programs, click “Apple Software Update”).

BlueFur Code

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

BlueFur CodeBlueFur Code has now been officially launched!

BlueFur Code is a Group Programming Project that will develop different kinds of PHP-based software. All programmed by whoever wants to help out. I submitted a great way on how to carry this out. By using Subversion (SVN) and Trac we will be able to actually work as a Group and be able to efficiently and easily manage everything.

The first project that we will be working on is a site scraping RSS Feed producer. Basically, it’ll crawl your site and get the content out of it, and shove the updates into an RSS Feed (I’m sure we’ll add more Feed Publishing Standards, such as Atom). Which visitors of said site can subscribe to, and then get the updates to it in a simple Feed. So, basically, you’ll be able to offer a “Site Updates Feed”.

All the software we make will be Free and Open Source (I’m guessing it’ll be under the GNU General Public License).

I think BlueFur Code is a great concept and hopefully it’ll take off well. I can’t wait to see some progress with the Projects. 😀

The current plan is to allow users to be able to Register on the Trac Project for the project we’re working on, and then they’ll be able to submit tickets, etc without having someone create an account for them, or having anonymous Ticket creation. A test will also be given to determine the contributors PHP/MySQL skill-set level, and Subversion Repository access will be given from there.

If you’d like to help contribute, head over to this BlueFur Code Blog post, and post a comment.

I plan on helping out a lot with the BlueFur Code projects; I’m sure it’ll be fun.

I helped get Trac and Subversion configured and working on BlueFur Code. So, I’ve already started contributing, even before we’ve started working on the Projects. 😀

I’ll be writing up a post later on how to configure Trac and Subversion.

1234Pens and FutureShop

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

You’re probably wondering about the title, what do 1234Pens and FutureShop have in common? One does promotional pens, one sells electronics. No connection, right? Wrong.

You ever notice how some websites look like one another? Well, I went to 1234Pens’ site today (for no particular reason, I was just bored), and I noticed that I had seen that layout before. It’s the exact same as FutureShop’s. There’s a few size differences between the layouts, but otherwise they’re the same.

The code isn’t the same though. So, what reasons are there? Same designer? Not likely. 1234Pens ripped of FutureShop’s design? Well, that’s certainly the most likely reason. It’s okay to take an idea or two from a site, but not the whole design, and not the colours and what makes the design the design, or what makes the site the site. Can’t people come up with their own designs anymore?

Alexa Gets New Look

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

AlexaIt appears that Alexa has a brand new layout. It’s not a completely new layout, it was just given a few tweaks and colour adjustments. Also, what looks to be a new logo.

I have to say, it’s an improvement of what it used to be, but it could be better. It still has a few bugs too.

MyCardMaker Gets Rid of Free Cards

Friday, May 11th, 2007

MyCardMakerMyCardMaker, a printable Card generator, no longer offers Free Cards. As of Thursday, May 10, 2007, you must be a “premium member” to print your card. They used to offer a couple of free cards in each category, but now you have to become a premium member to print any of the Cards.

For a 1-day membership, it’s $3.99 USD. For a year, it’s $19.99 USD. For 2 years, it’s $29.99 USD.

I had actually received an email about this earlier in the week, but I thought it was SPAM, and I deleted it. The email didn’t look very professional at all, but apparently it was legit.

In the beginnings of the MyCardMaker service, you used to be able to upload your own image for the Card cover, or use one of the premade ones, now for free. They then made it so you had to be a premium member to use your own image, and made most of the premade Covers premium member only. Leaving only a few Covers free. MyCardMaker has never had advertisements on their Website.

I think making all the Free Cards paid is a bad idea. If anything they should’ve built up some more (not to mention better) free Cards. Then, just make even better paid Cards, so that if people want fancier Cards, they’ll pay for them.

MyCardMaker pretty much dominated the Free Printable Card Generator market. There was really no other good, professional, free printable card generators.

Maybe I should start up a Free Printable Card Generator site… 😛
