Mitchell Harper Shuts Down His Blog and is Selling HarpzOn.Com

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

HarpzOn.Com was one of the blogs I regularly read, because it offered great information, mostly. Now, Mitchell Harper posted that he no longer has time to have a Blog, and is selling the domain HarpzOn.Com. He started blogging in late February (of 2007). I guess this goes to show you how fast Sites can fall apart, and especially how Blogs can quickly go down hill. The starting bid for the HarpzOn.Com domain is $5000 USD, which I think is pretty expensive, even though the domain is ranked fairly well (apparently 734 links from 214 blogs, says Technorati, and an Alexa Rank of 65 392). Just thought I’d post about this… I’m bored anyways. 😉

Looks like I’ll need to find another Blog to put into my Feed Reader. 😛

Google Launches Web History; Huge Privacy Concerns

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Google announced today that they have launched Google Web History.

How it works is that it’s attached to your Google Account, and when you sign-up to the Web History service, and have the Google Toolbar, with PageRank enabled, installed in your browser, all the pages you visit will be recorded into your Google Account, for you to be able to easy search it later. You can imagine that people might think that Google will be going through the websites you visit. I don’t think they will, I trust Google, to a point. So, as you can see, this new service has some serious Privacy Concerns, no matter what their Privacy Policy says.

Their idea behind it was so that you’ll be able to search through all the pages you’ve visited, since most people visit hundreds of sites per day, you’re likely to forget some of them, so this way it’ll help you remember that good site that you didn’t Favourite/Bookmark/Write down (too old school 😛 ).

Will you be signing up for this service?

Google Renames Froogle to “Google Product Search”

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Google Product Search LogoGoogle announced today that Froogle (Google’s way to help you find things to buy), is now renamed as “Google Product Search”. They say this will be less confusing for people, so that they actually know what it does.

You can know find the Google Product Search at the following URL:

http://www.google.com/products

Personally, I think the name change is silly. “Google Product Search” is quite a mouthful, isn’t very unique and doesn’t have the same ring to it as “Froogle” does. It’d be like is Google called Gmail “Google Electronic Online Mail”. 😛 The new name is 19 letters, 12 more letters then the previous name, Froogle.

It also seems that Google put together the name change pretty quickly. Especially since the Google Product Search logo is just the normal Google Logo with the text “Product Search” and “BETA” positioned around it, not just an image.

What do you think of the name change of “Froogle” (now Google Product Search)?

Philips Buys DLO

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Philips, which you probably heard of before, announced today that they have bought DLO (Digital Lifestyle Outfitters), most known for their DLO HomeDock and it’s other iPod accessories.

The deal will be finalized by the second quarter, and DLO is supposed to become part of Philips Accessories line. Whether that means DLO will cease to exist under their current name, or under Philips’ name, isn’t known, yet.

DLO is best known for it’s iPod accessories, but they also make Zune and other MP3 Players. DLO is best known for the “DLO HomeDock Deluxe”, which allows you to put your iPod on the Dock, and hock the Dock up to your TV, and then you can watch your Movies, Podcasts, etc on your TV, which the included remote and on-TV Interface.

I haven’t ever used a DLO product, but I hear they’re good. Plus, they’re advertised a lot on Photoshop TV.

Google’s “Sponsored Link” Becomes Yellow

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

If you have noticed, the background colour for the “Sponsored Link” on a Google search have changed from Blue to Yellow. A pale yellow. The previous colour, blue, worked much better, and complemented the colours of Google’s site much better. Now, the yellow is just an eyesore. This is probably to bring more attention to the Sponsored Links, so Google makes more money.
