Get into the Christmas Spirit
December 2nd, 2007 at 12:53 PM by Matt FreedmanYou can now go get into the Christmas spirit, because XmasRadio.ca has been launched. XmasRadio.ca is powered by BlueFur, and delivers over 4 days of Christmas music randomly during the Christmas season every year.
Oh, and, if you live in the Greater Vancouver Area, look outside for more Christmas spirit goodness.
AdSense Video Units Now Available in Canada, and Other Countries
November 19th, 2007 at 9:46 PM by Matt FreedmanThe AdSense team announced today that they’ll be expanding the availability of AdSense Video Units to include Canada, the UK and Ireland. If you don’t know, AdSense Video Units allow AdSense publishers to embed a customizable video player (from YouTube) into their pages that also displays a non-intrusive advertisement. This service was previously only available to AdSense publishers in the US.
They’ve already started slowly rolling these out to publishers now, and in the next few days you’ll see Video Unit in your AdSense account under AdSense Setup.
For more information on AdSense Video units, check this out, and you can see an example of a Video Unit here.
This is pretty sweet, I think I’ll be trying these out, once my AdSense account is enabled to get them. I’ll try to post an example on this post once I can use Video Units.
Gmail Now Has 5 GigaBytes of Storage
November 17th, 2007 at 11:39 PM by Matt FreedmanSometime yesterday or today, Gmail passed the 5 GigaBytes of storage mark. My original estimation was wrong, because Gmail slowed the counter back down, therefore invalidating my calculations. This means that Gmail now, once again, offers more storage than Windows Live Hotmail down. As of writing, Gmail has 5020 MBs of storage. It looks like the counter may have been sped up a bit again, too. Sweet!
Heh, I remember back in 2004 when I was using Hotmail and had 2 MBs of storage. But, now I have the awesome Gmail, and my more than 5 GBs of storage!
On a New Server
November 10th, 2007 at 1:27 AM by Matt FreedmanThis blog (and my other sites) are now on a new server. BlueFur rolled out a new server yesterday, and I asked them to move my account over to it.
I wanted to be on the new server because it has the latest version of cPanel 11, Apache 2.2 (their other servers run 1.3), PHP (although PHP just released a new version yesterday, so I guess it’s not the latest anymore…), Subversion and WebDAV (which Vista has some problems with).
Subversion is pretty sweet because I can make Repositories so I can do some development (programming) while still being able to revert all the changes, and collaborative development.
This blog is now faster, since the server has like nobody on it right now. It’s possible that I might even be the only customer on the new server (it’s named Buluku) currently.
So, if you go to Matt’s Blog and you see this post, then that means you’re viewing this blog on the new server.
The domain can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate, so you might not see this blog on the new server right away (in which case you’d probably be reading this from a feed reader).
If you find any problems with the site, contact me.
Random Blurbs: Nov. 7
November 7th, 2007 at 11:26 PM by Matt FreedmanCrunchGear is running a contest right now to win an unlocked Nokia N95. So go vote for my contest entry (and post a comment on it), please! 😀
Also, my Gmail account now has the updated version of Gmail enabled on it. It’s not really different, there’s a few cosmetic adjustments, and permalinks, but that’s all right now. But, I’m sure we’ll see new Gmail features soon (that was the whole point of the update, to change the code for it to make it ready for new stuff that will come soon).
Update [November 8, 2007 @ 10:55 PM]: Oh, I forgot to mention that the Contacts section in Gmail had a overhaul. There’s a lot nicer looking and easier to navigate through.
The Gmail space counter was slowed back down it appears, so my estimate of having 5 GBs of space by October 28, was smashed… Still getting closer though (as of writing, it’s at 4750 MBs).
I’ve removed some of the stuff that wasn’t particularly useful from the sidebar, and I changed the number of posts that’s displayed on the front page from 10 to 5. This is so that the site loads faster. The new theme will be even faster.
Here’s a new Poll. If you’re reading this in a Feed Reader, vote on the poll by clicking here.
