Winner of the Entrecard Credits Contest

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Just a quick post to say that somebody has won the Entrecard Credits contest. A whole 2 people entered the contest, and Random.org generated the winner, “Mr. Glenn” from gl3nnx.net. I sent the credits to him on Saturday.

Enjoy your Entrecard credits, Mr. Glenn!

On a New Server, Again

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Two weeks ago, BlueFur (use coupon code “10off” for 10% off your order) released yet another shared server. And, not surprisingly, I asked to be transferred to it, and I was, right away.

This new server is the first step in phasing out PHP 4. This server (named Dagon) runs Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2.4 running as the default (with PHP 4 running in CGI) and MySQL 5. That’s right, MySQL 5!

This server appears to be faster to, since execution times are down on this blog (possibly because of MySQL 5).

Sweet!

Matt’s Blog is 1 Year Old!

Friday, January 11th, 2008

This blog turned 1 year old on January 2nd. A combination of forgetting, remembering again, laziness and going back to school is to blame for this late post. 😛

You can see this blog’s complete statistics for 2007 (starting January 2, 2007) over on the Statistics page.

Hopefully another great year shall follow!

On a New Server

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

This blog (and my other sites) are now on a new server. BlueFur rolled out a new server yesterday, and I asked them to move my account over to it.

I wanted to be on the new server because it has the latest version of cPanel 11, Apache 2.2 (their other servers run 1.3), PHP (although PHP just released a new version yesterday, so I guess it’s not the latest anymore…), Subversion and WebDAV (which Vista has some problems with).

Subversion is pretty sweet because I can make Repositories so I can do some development (programming) while still being able to revert all the changes, and collaborative development.

This blog is now faster, since the server has like nobody on it right now. It’s possible that I might even be the only customer on the new server (it’s named Buluku) currently.

So, if you go to Matt’s Blog and you see this post, then that means you’re viewing this blog on the new server.

The domain can take up to 72 hours to fully propagate, so you might not see this blog on the new server right away (in which case you’d probably be reading this from a feed reader).

If you find any problems with the site, contact me.

Matt’s Blog Now on FeedBurner

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

FeedBurnerI have decided to switch to FeedBurner (now owned by Google) for the Matt’s Blog Feed. If you currently subscribe to the Feed (except the Comments Feed, that one’s staying) you shouldn’t notice anything different. I’ve made it so that all the Feed URL’s get redirected to the new Feed, at:

http://feed.mattsblog.ca/Main-Feed

Your Feed Reader should catch on (since it’s a Permanent Redirect) and update the URL it’s grabbing the Feed from (not that it’ll make a difference, they’ll get the FeedBurner Feed regardless).

I mainly made this switch so that I could see some Statistics on the Feed. Like how many people are subscribed to it.

Contact me if you experience any problems with the feed.
