WordPress Admin Menu Mouseover Idea

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

WordPress

I’ve submitted an Idea over at WordPress.org to change the menus a bit in the Admin Panel.

Basically, it says that the Menus should get some AJAXish goodness. So that when you would hover over a Primary Menu Item the Secondary Menu Items would scroll down on the Secondary Menu Bar replacing the current ones. So, that you’d be able to go straight to one of the pages associated under that Primary Item. Without the need to click on the Primary Item first. Then, when you move your mouse away from the Menu Bars, the Items would scroll back up to reveal the current Items.

If you think this is a good idea, then go Rate the Idea, please. 😀 Thanks.

Idea to Change the Secondary Menu Items on a Primary Menu Item Mouseover

Warned By Facebook

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Yesterday, I received an email from Facebook, basically saying that I group I made was deleted because of a Violation of their Terms and that it was a Warning. The group in question was called “PersonsName Has a Funny Accent”. Which I made as a joke and no harm was meant out of it. The email was quite vague on why the group was being deleted and why I was being warned.

Hey,

The group “PersonsName Has A Funny Accent” has been removed due to a violation of our Terms of Use, and this email serves as a warning.  Additional violations will result in the termination of your account.  Please read our Terms carefully and refrain from posting abusive material in the future.  Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact warning@facebook.com from your login email address.

Obviously an auto-generated email… You see I thought that they had deleted the group because it was “abusive”. But, I sent an email to their appeals email address and I received back an email today saying saying the following:

Hi Matt,

We do not allow users to post groups to advertise or
promote any product or opportunity.  This is a serious
violation of our Terms of Use.  Please refrain from posting
any such groups in the future and remove all outstanding
groups to avoid receiving further warnings.  To learn more
about our Terms of Use, please click on the “terms” link
found at the bottom of any Facebook page.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation,

That’s right, I got warned for something I didn’t do. My guess is that someone reported that group and chose “Advertising” for the reason. Which means that Facebook doesn’t actually look into the Report’s Allegations and just hits the Delete button. 😛

At this rate, I’ll be banned from Facebook. 😛 Especially if they see the other Group I created. Which I know was reported (I think he chose the reason “Pornographic”, which it wasn’t, it was another “joke group”), and I think the same guy had reported the group I got warned for. But, I changed the name on this particular group, so hopefully they won’t Warn or Ban me. 😛

Massive “Storm Trojan” SPAM Surge

There has been a recent surge in Email SPAM containing the Trojan.Peacomm Virus (also know as the Storm Trojan). This Virus comes as a attachment. Trojan.Peacomm is a Password-Protected Zip file, and, when opened, will install a Trojan Virus that will install itself as a System Driver and download and install malicious programs from various other computers on the Internet.

The Subjects of these emails are usually similar to these, but may change:

April Fools: CrunchGear Gets New Design

CrunchGear's April Fools' New Design

CrunchGear now has a new (cough) website design. Nice April Fools joke, a little too retro, though. This must’ve been what websites looked like when HTML 1 was released. 😛 Okay, maybe not then, but still a long time ago. 😛

Ubuntu Gets Internet Explorer and FireFox Mixed Up

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

The other day, Ubuntu announced that you can beta test 7.04, and listed some of the new features. One of which was this:

Windows migration tool: The new migration tool recognises Internet Explorer bookmarks, Firefox favourites, desktop wallpaper, AOL IM contacts, and Yahoo IM contacts, and imports them into Ubuntu during installation. This offers easier and faster migration for new users of Ubuntu and individuals wanting to run a dual-boot system.

Internet Explorer bookmarks, FireFox favourites? Uh, no. It’s Internet Explorer favourites and FireFox bookmarks. They sorta got that mixed up, nice one Ubuntu. 😛
