I thought I would update this posting. Rather then use a hardware fie for the fan speed issues I found a better way to control my fan speed by pathing the ACPI DSTS table.
Please visit "How I Fixed My HP DV9000 Computer" (http://icodehead.blogspot.com/2010/07/how-i-fixed-my-hp-dv9000-computer_02.html) for details on how to control your DV9000 or DV6000 fan speed.

After 3 years, the display of my DV9000t finally went out and the case that holds the screen hinge had cracked. I replaced the display case that holds the broken hinge. The case where the hinge connects cracked because the hinge is directly connected to the fan heat sink (how dump is that) and the fan ran to slow to keep heat sink cool. When the display went out I discovered that the VGA port still worked so I knew the NVIDIA chip had unsoldered. I reflowed the NVIDIA chip with a pen torch which worked great. There are lots of info on how to do this. Now that everything is working like new the problem how to get the fan to run fast enough to keep these failures from happening all over again. I have the Intel model so there is no BIOS fix to run the fan at full speed. What I did was to disconnect the 2 white and yellow fan wires at the mobo connector leaving the red and black wires connected. This runs the fan at full speed just like the BIOS fix. This had the effect of dropped the GPU temperature from 54° (normal operations) to 44°and from 64° (Gaming) to 54°. Later I added a 2 ohm 1 watt resistor in series with the 5vdc red wire which was just enough to take the edge of the noise. I’m continuing to look for an automatic fan control with a temperature sensor I can put on the NVIDIA heat sink and adjust the levels to keep it running at optimal temperature levels. The trick is finding or building one small enough to fit in a laptop. Anyone know of one please post it here.

It doesnt really work like you said.
Well, beginning around Thanksgiving I started having the same/similar problem; no display. II just went blank while the comp was on. I didn't actually see it when it happened as I had stepped away. But, rebooting resulted in the same beeps as described elsewhere on the internet... 1 long and 2 short. Btw, in order to reboot I had to remove battery and power cord as the pwr button alone did nothing.

Some reboots... like 1 in 5 resulted in display coming back on. When it did I selected going into hibernation mode versus shutting down when I was done for the day. Always upon coming back to start... when from hibernation, things came back on normally. Rarely did it from a shut down.

So, after doing the hibernation strategy for 2 months the thing will not restart normally at all. I forgot one night and it shut down by itself. It seems it sometimes goes into a constant cycle of shutting down and rebooting. My only resolution now, I fear, is sending it off to HP for a fix. The 1-year wrranty ends sometime in Febrauary.

So, now I am trying to track down the procedure for sending it back and how long it takes to get it back. Unfortunately I can only do this research from work as I obviously don't have a comp at home now. Any feedback on this from anyone?
Obviously the posts are old but I can leave some semi helpful feedback. First I bought 2 Compaq presario V6000US thinking it was an awesome deal at Comp USA WRONG

I had my mother board replaced 3 times and it still worked like crap - grinding, slow, over heating, shutting off, recycling on and off again etc.

Fed up of the crappy service repairs and help, I reformatted and installed XP instead of Vista. It helped with the system problems but NOT the overheating problems. HP said there were no recalls (HA hard to believe) but here's what I've heard:

Navadia (whatever that graphics board is called) is one possible culprit - selling defective parts to HP - if a law suit didn't go through - the N company will not admit any wrongdoing, and there fore HP says ok our products are fine - not our fault.

2nd culprit - HP went cheap and did not lubricate a special chip that's within the system (or should be in the system)that prevents the over heating problem

Now, whether having one or both problems repaired will correct the power plugin issue, I have no idea. Rolling back to factory installs won't help hardware or software issues that were bad to begin with. My local computer repairmen understand what's wrong with the notebooks. I think there should be or should have been a class action lawsuit. HP won't even acknowledge the dangers involved with overheating components as I have complained to them several times, and all they do is say there are NO known issues and you are beyond warranty.
